How to choose residential treatment in Massachusetts
Fernside and CMC:Berkshires are useful addiction-treatment comparisons, while Austen Riggs and Gunderson serve different psychiatric needs. Ask the referring clinician which model fits the presenting difficulties.
Check the minimum commitment as well as the daily or monthly fee. Longer psychiatric admissions should not be budgeted as a standard 30-day addiction stay.
Ask where any required detox will happen. Fernside’s official page describes arranging detox before admission when needed; an overnight residence is not automatically a detox service.
Compare the complete cost of the stay
Request a written quote for the named campus, clinical program, room type and length of stay. Ask about assessment fees, detox, medication, outside consultations, transport, deposits, cancellation terms and continuing care. A daily rate multiplied by 30 can be a comparison tool, but it is not proof that the provider sells a 30-day package. Insurance benefits and the amount the resident must pay need separate confirmation.
Does a private residential program always offer detox?
No. Detox arrangements vary. Fernside, for example, describes helping arrange detox before admission when needed. Ask each center whether withdrawal management is on site, provided elsewhere or an admission prerequisite.
